With Teune, you can travel far on the yoga mat. Under his gentle yet steady guidance, you are invited to explore your potential, expand your limits safely, and grow in a heartfelt way. His teaching is rooted in ancient traditions, and his devotion and depth leave a lasting impression.
Teune's journey with yoga began with Ashtanga, which quickly became his lifelong passion. He traveled the world to experience the practice in its most authentic form, and his fascination with the therapeutic aspects of yoga led him to Thailand, where he immersed himself in Thai yoga massage. Over time, he became a dedicated practitioner and teacher of this healing blend of yoga, massage, and acupressure.
After more than a decade of teaching group classes, Teune decided to focus exclusively on passing on Ashtanga yoga through the Mysore style. He believes that while group formats have value, true depth and steady progress unfold in the one-on-one setting of Mysore. For Teune, it is deeply fulfilling to witness how students not only advance safely in the sequences but also transform their mindset and lifestyle through this method.
His dedication to both Indian yoga and Thai massage traditions has taken him regularly to Asia, where he studied with some of the most respected teachers. A defining influence has been his close apprenticeship with Homprang Chaleekanha, one of Thailand's most renowned healers, who entrusted him with permission to teach her massage techniques. In Mysore, South India, Teune continues to refine his practice under Sharath Jois, grandson of the vidwan Pattabhi Jois, and he studies Indian philosophy, mantra, and Sanskrit with Lakshmish Bhat. He is a KPJAYI Level 2 Authorized Teacher.
Throughout his path, many teachers have shaped Teune into the sincere and grounded teacher he is today. Early on, he assisted Urban Flow founder Rusty Wells around the world and studied with Patrick and Gösta of Svaha Yoga Amsterdam. For years, he taught at Antwerp Yoga as a close collaborator of founder Elsie Matthijssens. In 2017, he founded Ashtanga Yoga Antwerp-the first studio in the city dedicated solely to Ashtanga. Today, his school has merged back with Antwerp Yoga, where he leads the Mysore program.
When not teaching, Teune devotes much of his time to study and personal practice. Currently, he is delving deeply into the yoga scriptures through Vedic chanting with Shantala Sriramaiah in Brussels. Curiosity, exploration, and study are at the heart of his nature-and as a teacher, he simply wishes to share the best of what he learns, authentically and in line with tradition.
